On China

GENERALLY SPEAKING

  • I VISITED CHINA FOR ABOUT A DAY, WAY BACK WHEN I WAS A KID TRAVELING WITH MY PARENTS TO HONG KONG (1984?).  I AM GLAD THAT THE COUNTRY IS NOW MORE OPEN TO FORIEIGN INVESTMENT AND FOREIGN TOURISTS.  I GENERALLY SUPPORT FREE MARKETS AND FREE TRADE POLICIES.
  • I HAVE PLENTY OF HUMAN RIGHTS-RELATED OBJECTIONS TO WHAT THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT DOES OR DOES NOT DO.  I AM SKETPICAL ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF IMPOSING TARIFFS ON CHINESE GOODS DOING MUCH TO IMPROVE THE HUMAN RIGHTS STANDARDS AND PRACTICES OF THE CHINESE COMMUNITY PARTY.
